
About Maya
​
Maya Maat (she/her) is the founder of Live in Peace Yoga, based in Atlanta, GA. After studying nursing and psychology in college, Maya pursued a career in wellness and holistic healing. She is currently registered with Yoga Alliance (RYT 200) and certified in yoga therapy. Maya specializes in yoga therapy which uses a combination of yogic tools such as asanas (poses), pranayama (breathwork), meditation practices, guided imagery, and journaling to address physical, mental, and energetic needs. She has been practicing yoga since the age of 5 and over time her practice has become a major part of her spiritual journey. Through yoga, Mayas found peace and many lessons including the value of self-love and being in the present moment.

During the collective stress of early 2020 due to the onslaught of the pandemic coupled with racial injustices, Maya dedicated her time to activism and doing volunteer work in her community. During that time, she was inspired to share the lessons of peace and self-love through her practice on a larger scale which led her to start her business, Live in Peace Yoga. Since then, Maya has shared her practice in Georgia, South Carolina, St. Lucia, Barbados, and Belize. Traveling the world, teaching, writing poetry/music, and spending time with loved ones are things that fill Maya's soul with joy. She is committed to living freely and doing her part in making the world a better place.
